Ahh...homemade bread. There is nothing quite like that aroma filling your house! For the ultimate in fresh bread, try grinding the wheat into flour moments before combining it with the other bread ingredients. Now that's fresh!
Here are some wheat berries waiting to be turned into flour.
I use a Vita-Mix (one of my most used kitchen implements!) with the 'dry container'. This container has specially shaped blades that are great for grinding anything from coffee beans to corn and even soap for homemade laundry powder!
Here is the Vita-mix in action! It takes just a few seconds for the wheat berries to become flour.
All of the ingredients for delicious whole wheat bread.
If you're interested in getting your hands on some wheat berries to have a go at making flour, you can get some right here at the Chewelah Valley Fresh Market. Front Porch Farm has their own Hard Red Winter Wheat Berries available in 5 and 10 pound bags or a 50 pound bucket. Click here to have a look...
I had a thought, as I do not have a grinder, someone could offer fresh ground wheat flour...............do you know of any one likely to?
ReplyDeleteThere is indeed a farm that produces flour from their very own wheat here in Stevens County, and I would love for them to become part of the CVFM. Keep your fingers crossed!
