Row Hoops and Compost and Seeds, Oh My!

Without fail, at this time of the year I always feel like I am already letting the yard work get away from me...and the snow has only been gone a few weeks! But last weekend I finally got out into the garden...

It is looking pretty neglected, I had better get to work!

First order of business is to head out to the compost pile with my trusty garden cart and run a bunch of compost through the hardware cloth sieve. This takes approximately forever.

10 month-old Oliver knows dogs are not allowed in the garden. Poor boy.

This does not (err...cannot) apply to cats.

The first bed has been amended with compost, seeds planted and the first row hoop stuck in the ground. Can you guess what I planted?

Tragically, I discover that the pipe that brings water to the garden did not survive the winter. Plan B is a good old fashioned watering can to give the seeds a drink.

Khody thought he heard someone say the 'carrot' word and strolled over to the garden fence to check it out.

Now the little carrot seeds are all snug under their Reemay blanket. A few degrees can make all of the difference between freezing and growing in these parts.

One down and a bunch more to go! But at least I get to be in the garden- one of my favorite places to be.
